"Sweetballs"

If you have children, know people with children, or are occasionally responsible for feeding children...listen to this!

I cannot tell you how many times in the past 2.5 years I've BEGGED and PLEADED with the kids to "eat their meat". If I had a dime for each time I said those three little words I'd be a very wealthy lady! I've tried putting low-fat cheese on any and everything, hiding protein in sweets (think avocado & peanut butter), and I've attempted numerous recipes from "Deceptively Delicious"...all to hear "This tastes funny!" or "What's in here?"

So this week as part of my T-Giving Test Run, I tried my friend Corina's recipe for appetizer meatballs, and they were a MAJOR hit with my little taste testers. I have hit the proverbial protein jackpot!

I made them the not-so-healthy way (beef meatballs & regular grape jelly), but next time I want to try them with turkey meatballs and sugar-free or all-natural jelly. Either way, there is definitely room for creativity here.

These are SO. VERY. EASY.

Combine in a slow cooker:

Pre-cooked frozen meatballs (fill to about 3/4 full).

1/2 a bottle of grape jelly

1/2 a bottle of Heinz Chili Sauce

Simmer on high for 20-30 minutes.

This is especially good for those little serial-snackers who love to snack but give you trouble at mealtime.

Just had to share.

  1. I have a great homemade meatball recipe for spaghetti and meatballs - and its actually pretty easy (not as easy as this one above though). Its with ground turkey and spicy turkey sausage, fresh parsley, egg whites, italian bread crumbs and pepper - let me know if you're interested, not sure if they would eat those but they are so good, and if baked, minimally greasy! :)
